american groundnut & beet, cacti, sago & ponytail palms, peppers, obscure citrus, on & on. claytonia's wet dark, arugula soft blanketing. we're getting bees soon; israel built a hive with a window set in its cut side.

actually swiss chard! i guess i didn't really list everything pictured? & you CALLED ME on it, you bitch!

++ bees um i know? israel just randomly was like, hey, i started building a top bar hive, is that cool? & i went um yeah! we're getting russian bees, which are supposed to be less likely to sting & swarm, better for the weather, aren't sensitive to those crazy mite things, etc... our bees haven't gotten here yet (shipping late may!) but some days we'll be out front & he'll be like, "look, there are two different types of honey bees near the holly bush!" & i'm all, ???

my stepfather who is uhh out of the picture now kept bees when we were children. oddly enough my mom has a phobia of honey, not like honey mixed-in for baking, but straight honey. i put cloverhoney in my tea & it really bothers her. she says its bad to eat straight cause bees are "angry" or something. vibes, i guess?

p.s. did you ever do those workshops?

love the "uhh," except, right, ugh. i really loved bees when i was a kid? would have them sit on my fingers while crawling around sodas & flowers. israel was pretty hardcore about wanting to do top bar because it's supposed to be a lot less invasive for the bees, which is wicked -- i actually think it's really sweet, but the "angry" bit still cracked me up a little! i like that you came from someone like that.

we've had a few people over to show how to deep mulch & do seed blocks, taught some people to make yogurt & basic farmer's cheese, a kid showed a few of us how to play singing saw, there was some go & some fermentation, but mostly it's just turned into tiny gatherings where we're hanging out drinking/eating anyway & so show each other things, haven't really bothered w/ a legit workshop form. we've found it easier to give 18-yr-old boys beer & ask them to tear apart a stack of pallets for wood, or make people drop seeds into blocks while they're talking over drinks... hilariously? we've been using gatherings more for cooperative manual labor than as a space for sharing ideas, & after some initial disappointment i think i'm pretty ok with that.

at the end of the day, i don't feel like i have much to share anyway? or much to say *about* anything. head is empty; i guess i function just as mechanically. but it doesn't seem to matter, really. i like having a drink & falling asleep on the couch.
